Domain Phillip Jones 'Old Cellar'
Pinot Noir 2007 - $29.99
"This is the last in a series of wines made from
Mornington Peninsula fruit by Phillip Jones at Bass Phillip.
Closure of the fruit contracts has resulted in cessation of
the business. The 2007 vintage is by far the best, using
fruit grown biodynamically, the wine has good natural
acidity, lifted berry & stone fruits, and a mouthfilling
fatness. Good value for money." Phillip Jones
'. . . . Jones conducted tastings of new Bass Phillip
releases for Sydney restaurateurs and retailers in November
and the line-up was the most impressive I've ever seen from
Bass Phillip . . . we tasted an 07 Gamay, 07 Crown Prince
pinot noir, 07 Estate, 07 Premium, and all were superb,
mounting in intensity, character, flesh and power as we
ascended in price. There was also a limited re-release of
the 04 Premium, which was also good in a lighter-bodied
style. A one-off bottling, '21' 2006, blended from all the
vineyards to celebrate the 21st anniversary, was also
excellent, with luscious fruit and powerful structure. These
are seriously smart pinots, loaded with richness and
character and high in quality.' Huon Hooke - Sydney
Morning Herarld, February 10 2009

Vega Sicilia Dinner at Ash Street Cellar
What words can be conjured up to describe the wines of
Vega Sicilia? These are truly special wines. But this is no
modern, points-grabbing winery. Spain's first growth has
history, a sense of place and, says winemaker Xavier Ausas,
a willingness to adhere to time-honoured traditions.
